Feeling frustrated that first-mile data collection costs too much and delivers too little?

If you’re collecting data across a large number of farmers or beneficiaries, small issues quickly become expensive ones.

Field teams work hard, but you still get incomplete records, duplicates, and data that needs fixing

You do not always have real visibility of what’s happening in the field until it’s too late..

Dashboards and reports lag behind reality because data is only usable after manual checks

Audit and compliance requirements keep rising, but confidence in the evidence is not where it needs to be

Built by people who’ve done this on the ground

I’m Kelechi Amadi, co-founder of Smallholdr. For almost 10 years, I’ve designed and implemented first-mile data collection and traceability solutions across multiple countries, working directly with field teams in low-connectivity environments.

I’ve helped smallholder supply chains, sourcing schemes and impact programmes move from pen-and-paper and guesswork to fully digital, transparent, and traceable operations. I’ve worked on programmes reaching multi-million farmer and beneficiary scale, and I’ve seen first-hand what works, what breaks, and what quietly kills data quality when you try to scale.

This scorecard is built from that experience. It’s the practical diagnostic I wish every programme had before scaling, switching tools, or heading into audit season.

Behind it is the Smallholdr team. We build and deliver a trusted first-mile data collection platform used by leading organic sourcing companies, major NGOs, and government organisations. Our mission is simple: Help digitise sourcing schemes globally, unlock more value in the crops farmers produce, and ultimately improve livelihoods through better transparency and traceability.
